On his death Toyotomi Hideyoshi was deified in the magnificent Toyokuni Jinja shrine. It was later destroy ed by Tokugawa Ieyasu the first shogun of Edo period (1603-1868) who overthrew the Toyotomi family. The shrine standing today was rebuilt in 1880. |
